Laser treatment at Brentknoll Therapy Centre
At Brentknoll we use a class 3B Laser to offer holistic treatment to provide analgesic pain reduction, reduction in swelling and improved healing in small animals. Laser therapy (photo biomodulation) is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near infrared) to cause a change to the body tissues. It is safe and effective therapy with no known long-term side effects.
Laser sessions usually last 30 minutes but are often combined with one of our other treatment plans such as hydrotherapy or chiropractic assessment and will always be with consent from your pet’s veterinarian. During each session the laser energy produced increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the treatment area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain.
Laser therapy is a useful treatment for your pet for a variety of conditions including:
- Wound healing
- Osteoarthritis
- Tendinitis
- Cruciate injury
- IVDD
- Elbow and Hip Dysplasia
- Hot spots
- Skin conditions
The response to the treatment can sometimes be seen as soon as 12 hours after treatment but the effect is cumulative, and most conditions require several treatments for the greatest benefit. Most cases require up to 6 treatments, often delivered in weekly sessions. There is no need for sedation or manual handling as laser therapy is gentle and often relaxing for the animal.
